John Arcilla, the actor who plays Gen. Antonio Luna, said that the short-tempered general is a hero who is not necessarily a perfect person.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — Historical-action biopic Heneral Luna officially crossed the P200-million mark in order to break even.

Executive Producer Fernando Ortigas and screenwriter-producer EA Rocha announced the good news on Saturday night (October 3) on Heneral Luna's official Facebook page.

It said that although the film's 'true break-even point is still at P240M,' the entire team is still grateful and appreciates everyone's ongoing patronage and support.

On Saturday morning, it had to earn P7.3 million to hit the P200-million mark.

The producers, distributor, and actors of the film called for Filipinos to support the film to reach its breakeven point so that producers may have the resources to start its next film on another national hero.

Heneral Luna, which stars John Arcilla as the short-tempered but patriotic general, is a part of a planned trilogy. The second film will be about Gen. Gregorio del Pilar and the third will be about Pres. Manuel Quezon.

Heneral Luna is the country's official entry to the 2016 Oscars for the Best Foreign Language Film category.

Producer Joji Alonso of Quantum Films — distributor of the film — also asked for support to help its Oscars campaign, which she said needs "$2M to make a decent run."

Heneral Luna is now the highest-grossing historical film of all time after it crossed the P170 million mark at the box office.
