Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The results are in: Maria Mika Maxine Medina is this year's Miss Universe Philippines. The winners were announced during the coronation night of the Binibining Pilipinas 2016 on Sunday (April 17) at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Medina, 25, is an interior designer who graduated from the Philippine School of Interior Design.

"It's pressure, but for sure I will enjoy it and I will give my best shot for this... I will train more and I will talk to Pia to get some advise," said Medina.

"I really don't know, pero siguro [but I guess] God has a plan."

  • Bb Pilipinas Supranational 2016 – Joanna Eden
  • Bb Pilipinas Intercontinental 2016 – Jennifer Hammond
  • Bb Pilipinas Globe 2016 – Nichole Manalo
  • Bb Pilipinas Grand International 2016 – Nicole Cordoves
  • 1st runner-up – Angelica Alita
  • 2nd runner-up – Jehza Mae Huelar

"I'm really grateful and really happy to have this crown and the feeling I can't describe I'm finally here this is what I've been waiting for but of course this is for a greater purpose," said Verzosa.

"Let's not forget the essence of the pageant it's one to open doors for the girl and one to speak about things that really truly matter to me," she added.

Meanwhile, Miss Universe 2015 Pia Wurtzbach delivered an emotional speech where she thanked her supporters and encouraged her successor: "In your moment of doubt, remember you have the whole country cheering you on."

Medina will represent the country in the 65th Miss Universe pageant, where she will attempt to win the crown again for the Philippines.
