Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — President Rodrigo Duterte has only been in office for six months, but he is already one of Facebook's top global newsmakers this 2016.

Duterte and the presidential elections in the country landed in the Top 5 most-talked about global topics on Facebook this year.

The Philippines' tough-talking President joined the ranks of the heated U.S. presidential elections, the rise of augmented reality app Pokémon GO, and the surprising deaths of music icon David Bowie, and boxing legend Muhammad Ali on the list.

Facebook released the list of top global topics and top live videos on Thursday.
