Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) – A huge fire razed a residential area in San Andres, Manila on Saturday (March 12), leaving six persons sustaining minor injuries and around 200 families affected.

The fire started around 7 a.m., after residents heard an explosion from a nearby area of informal settlers. It immediately reached the top floors – third and fourth – of the two condo-type buildings.

The fire alert reached Task Force Alpha, meaning other fire stations from nearby districts were called to respond.

Even affected residents did their share to save their community, but many also left the compound bringing with them what they can.

The fire was declared under control as of 10:40 a.m.

Aside from houses, the nearby Holy Family Parochial School was also damaged. The school administrator said one of the school's buildings, particularly the second floor, was affected by the fire.

The total cost of damage is pegged at P5 million.

The cause of fire is still unknown.
