The Sangguniang Kabataan elections will be held in October 2016.

(CNN Philippines) — It's official: No Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections this year.

The postponement was made final after Pres. Benigno Aquino III signed Republic Act No. 10656, or “An Act Postponing the Sangguniang Kabataan Elections to the Last Monday of October 2016” on Wednesday (March 25).

The law's full text was posted on the Official Gazette's Twitter account on Thursday (March 26).

According to Republic Act No. 10656, the youth council elections will be synchronized with the next barangay elections. Both will be held on the last Monday of October 2016, which falls on the 31st.

The SK elections were supposed to be held in October 2013, but was moved to February 2015 before the law postponing it to next year was passed.

The Commission on Elections and the Department of the Interior and Local Government were given 30 days to implement the new law.

The adjustments on the SK elections were passed by the House of Representatives on December 1, 2014 and were amended by the Senate a few months later.

The bill was officially approved by both houses on February 9, 2015.
