Voting 2-1, the Commission on Elections First Division canceled Poe's certificate of candidacy for the presidency.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — On Friday (December 11), the First Division of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) canceled the certificate of candidacy (COC) for president of Sen. Grace Poe.

Voting 2-1, the Comelec division gave its verdict on three separate cases filed by former Sen. Francisco "Kit" Tatad, professor Antonio Contreras, and constitutionalist Amado Valdez.

Commissioners Rowena Guanzon and Luie Guia voted in favor of the petitions. Only Senior Commissioner Christian Robert Lim dissented, citing the following reasons:

  • Tatad petition: It "should have been dismissed outright for availing of the wrong mode to assail the qualifications of the respondent."
  • Issue of residency on the Contreras and Valdez petitions: There is "no material misrepresentation in the certificate of candidacy of the respondent as to the number of years she has been a resident of the Philippines."
  • Issue of citizenship on the Valdez petition: "[No] ruling can be rendered whether the respondent misrepresented her claim to being a natural-born Filipino citizen in her certificate of candidacy."
