Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, April 24) — Honeylet Avanceña, the common-law wife of Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, will serve as the official hostess for the spouses of the leaders of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Although not the official first lady of the Philippines, Avanceña will take the spouses of Sultan of Brunei Hassanal Bolkiah, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, and Laos Prime Minister Thongloun Sisoulith to the Metropolitan Museum in Manila for a tour.

Paynor said Duterte himself designated Avanceña as the official hostess.

Avanceña, second partner of President Rodrigo Duterte, also played host to Akie Abe, Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe's wife during their visit in the Philippines in January.

The  ASEAN Summit in April 26 to 29 is the first of the semi-annual summit, with the next leg happening in November.

The Philippines, through an alphabetical, rotational basis, is the host for ASEAN 2017.

ASEAN 2017 National Organizing Council Dir. Gen. for Operations Marciano Paynor said the giveaways for the April summit will be special barongs, with its fabric sourced in Mindanao.

"If you give the nice giveaways on the first half, then you'll be hard-pressed  to think of other giveaways for  the rest in November," Paynor said.
