  • Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte is with nine other ASEAN heads of state invited by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 26) President Rodrigo Roa Duterte is with his delegation in New Delhi for the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)-India Commemorative Summit.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi welcomed Duterte and the nine other ASEAN leaders s before the launch of the ASEAN-India commemorative stamp at the Taj Diplomatic Enclave Hotel on Thursday.

The summit is slated to release the Delhi Declaration covering political, economic and cultural cooperation between the regional group and India.

A highlight of the event is India's Republic Day Parade.

Duterte's meeting with Modi led to $1.25 billion in investment pledges from India, which is expected to generate 105,000 jobs in the Philippines. Duterte also called on Indian pharmaceutical companies to come to the Philippines to produce cheaper medicines.

Duterte's visit to India is his first to the South Asian country as head of state, and his first foreign trip this year.
