Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, August 15) — President Rodrigo Duterte has declared August 21 a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid'l Adha.

The President signed Proclamation No. 556 on Wednesday.

August 21 is also a special non-working day to mark the 35th death anniversary of former Senator Benigno "Ninoy" Aquino, Jr.

The Labor Department on Thursday said those who work on this day shall be paid 200 percent of the sum of their daily rate and cost of living allowance plus an additional 30 percent of the doubled daily rate. The agency released an advisory to inform employees and employers of the payment of wages when a day is both a regular holiday and a special non-working day.

Eid'l Adha or the Feast of Sacrifice is one of the two most significant feasts of Islam, with the other being Eid'l Fitr. Muslims consider Eid'l Adha as one of their revered observances, as the religious holiday marks the end of Hajj--the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia.
