Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, February 12) —  A magnitude 5.1 earthquake hit Davao Occidental on Tuesday afternoon, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

The quake, tectonic in origin, had a depth of 48 kilometers along the province of Sarangani. It struck the area at 4:01 p.m.

Intensity 1 was recorded over the municipalities of Kiamba and Alabel, Phivolcs added.

A series of magnitude 5 quakes also hit Surigao del Norte over the weekend. A magnitude 5.5 earthquake was also recorded in Pangasinan last Wednesday.

Phivolcs warned of aftershocks but said damage was not expected.
