Reports: Frankie Lim replaces Ato Agustin as Barangay Ginebra head coach

(CNN Philippines) — Barangay Ginebra San Miguel failed anew in its bid to prop up its sagging fortunes in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Ginebra got the boot in the ongoing import-laden conference after absorbing a narrow loss to the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, 92-91, in the quarterfinals.

The loss is the latest of what has been a series of disappointments for the crowd-favorite Gin Kings.

In line with this, the Ginebra management is making another coaching change.

Former team assistant coach Frankie Lim will now call the shots for the Gin Kings,

The team last won a championship in 2008 and has been underachieving since then despite parading a roster composed of top-caliber cagers like Mark Caguioa, LA Tenorio, Greg Slaughter, Japeth Aguilar, and Joseph Yeo.

The coaching change was first reported by the Philippine Star and was confirmed by San Miguel Corporation's Ramon S. Ang in an interview with

Lim, a four-time champion coach with the San Beda Red Lions in the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA), is best-known as a disciplinarian who employs the run-and-gun system.
