Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — The Philippines failed to make headway in its quest for a medal in football after falling prey to Cambodia, 3-1, in the Southeast Asian (SEA) Games at the Jalan Besar Stadium in Singapore on Wednesday (June 3).

It only took a Mony Udom Prak goal at the 30th minute of the first half for Cambodia to get its groove and handle their Filipino opposition.

That goal gave the Cambodians the impetus to notch a second, this time through Sokpheng Keo, just 11 minutes later to enter half time with a 2-0 upperhand.

At the start of the second half, the Filipinos played with a little sense of urgency.

In the 53rd minute, the Philippines scored the maiden goal of the tournament after Paolo Salenga guided the ball into the back of the net.

However, the Filipinos could not build on the momentum and conceded another goal in the 81st minute after a Vathanaka Chan finish.

The Philippines will play its last match in the group stages on Sunday against Myanmar.
