Metro Manila (CNN Philippines) — In just a few weeks ONE heavyweight champion Brandon Vera will stake his belt for the first time against undefeated fighter Hideki Sekine on December 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

According to Vera, he feels like he is in the shape of his life.

"My mixed martial arts career has had its up and downs, highs and lows," Vera said in a statement. "But I feel that right now, I’m the best that I have ever been. I’m in my prime and I feel great."

Vera is facing off against Sekine, who will be making his ONE Championship debut against the Filipino fighter.

With the fight looming closer, the heavyweight champion says that his preparations have been going smoothly.

"Training has been phenomenal. I train with the best fighters in the world at Alliance MMA and with some really top guys in the Philippines as well," Vera said. "I am always in shape and ready to go."

Sekine boasts of a clean 7-0 MMA record ahead of his clash against 'The Truth'.

The Japanese fighter last saw action in the cage on December 2014, registering a TKO victory against Ryuta Kono.

Despite Sekine not having seen the ring for over two years, Vera is not underestimating his opponent.

"My opponent is an undefeated Japanese martial arts veteran who is really strong and has a very capable ground game," Vera admitted.

"I think is a good test for me to see where I am at in my career. I will need to come into the fight in my best condition. I don’t want to take any opponent lightly," he added.

Vera and Sekine will meet in the cage for the main event of the ONE Championship card on December 2 at the Mall of Asia Arena.
