Mbala leaves La Salle for Mexican ball club

Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, December 22) — Two-time UAAP Most Valuable Player Ben Mbala will no longer suit up for the De La Salle Green Archers next season.

Mbala, who played for two years for the Green Archers, confirmed his departure from the Taft-based squad in a Twitter post.

The Cameroonian led the Green Archers in capturing the Season 79 crown in 2016, and finishing runner-up in this year's tournament.

"It is with a heavy heart that I announce that the time has come for me to move on from De La Salle University and the Green Archers," Mbala said.

Mbala said he is aware that his decision "might come as a surprise to many."

In an interview with CNN Philippines Sports Desk, Mbala reiterated that his decision is already final.


"The decision to leave was the toughest I have had to make after being with La Salle for so many years, but I feel that this decision is best for the next stage in my career and development," he added.

In an Instagram post, Mexican ball club Fuerza Regia announced that they have acquired the services of Mbala Fuerza Regia plays in Mexico's professional league.

Mbala averaged 26.0 points 13.1 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in Season 80 of the UAAP.
